Mental Health

Celebrities may seem to have it all together, but it turns out that they’re real people, too–and many of them live with various mental health disorders. Below, learn more about what five well-known celebrities had to say about mental health topics. These amazingly talented individuals have used their platforms to raise awareness and acceptance of disorders like OCD, PTSD, postpartum depression, and more.

1. Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo has spoken out about OCD a few times over the years. He talked about his childhood when he used to step on cracks on the way to school and walk back a block and step on that same crack. Speaking of the way he handles his OCD, he explained that at some point, he knew he was doing something out of the ordinary and tried to stop himself from stepping on every gum stain. You don’t need to do that.’”

When it comes to mental health in general, DiCaprio believes that if you can do what you do best and be happy about it, you’re further along in life than most people.

2. Lady Gaga

Gaga has been through some tough times in her life that left her with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. She explained that while she was under treatment for PTSD, she faced some brave men and women who serve countries worldwide. She then continued with her talk, where she seeks awareness and wants to let people know; mental sickness affects you and people around you.

3. Adele

Adele experienced postpartum depression after giving birth to her son in 2012. She explained that she was obsessed with her child until she started feeling inadequate and questioned her choice. When discussing her previous misconceptions of postpartum depression, Adele emphasized the importance of making time for herself as a new mom. “It makes you a better mom if you give yourself time,” she stated truthfully.

Since postpartum depression occurs in about 10 to 20% of new mothers, it’s great to have a celebrity sharing her knowledge of the issue and giving valuable advice to others who can relate. If you’re interested in taking various mental health assessments, take a look at Mind Diagnostics.
