Reasons for No Power at Home

We can’t survive 5 minutes without electricity in the modern world. At least, that’s what we think until the power goes out and we discover that we really can survive without it for a few hours.

Of course, that still doesn’t mean that we want to. So, let’s check out these reasons for a power outage in your home to help you figure out how to get it working again!

External Causes of Power Outages-

Something may be inhibiting the power from arriving at your house. This is considered an external cause of the power outage. There are a few ways this can happen.

External Causes of Power Outages-

1.  You Forgot to Pay Your Bill:

First thing, check the date. Have you missed your electric payment? There’s no shame in this if it happens to you, it happens to the best of us. A quick call to the electric company and coming current on your bill will take care of it, though you may have to wait a few hours for power to be restored.

2. Mother Nature:

Mother Nature has all sorts of ways to mess with your electricity. Storms, earthquakes, lightning, and downed trees are all things that could disrupt your power supply.

3. Animals:

Electrical equipment usually has wildlife protection built into the system. However, some sly (or not so sly) little animals can still get inside. If they touch the wrong things, they could cause a short circuit that damages the equipment and causes a loss of power at home.

Internal Causes of Power Outage-

There are also a few things that can happen in your home that can cause a power outage.

4. Overloaded Power Boards:

Powerboards are great for when you need extra outlets. However, just because they have all those plug-ins doesn’t mean you need to use them all at the same time! Overloading the system can cause an outage.

5. Bad Circuit Breakers:

Circuit breakers are designed to cut the power when something is wrong with the electrical system. This is a safety feature to help prevent electrocution and fires. However, if there is something wrong with the circuit breaker itself, it might shut off the power when it doesn’t need to.

Problems Caused by Power Outages-

Aside from not being able to charge your smartphone, power outages are a huge inconvenience. They can result in food spoilage if your refrigerator and freezer are without power for too long. Not to mention it simply disrupts our modern, plugged-in lives to not have access to electricity when we need it.

Call a Professional for Help-

Take care when dealing with electricity, as it can be dangerous for those who don’t know what they’re doing. Always call a professional if you suspect electrical problems in your home. Otherwise, if the source of your power outage is external, simply call your provider and wait for them to get the issue taken care of.
