After the completion of NEET examination, NEET cut-off will be released. But for 2018, the cut off marks are lower than the last year marks. So, the reason behind the reduction of cut-off is to benefit 18,000 aspirants by improving their chances of filling up PG seats and minimize wastage of seats. The reduction in the cut off marks is a significant step towards strengthening the medical sectors and indicates the priority given by the government to the health sector.
Talking about NEETcut-off marks, these are the minimum marks required by the students in order to qualify the NEET exam. This exam is organized by NTA. After clearing the exam, students can get admission in MBBS and BDS courses offered by the numerous reputed Indian colleges.
How a reduction in cut-off will benefit student:
This reduction in NEET cut-off will not only benefit the health sector or medical sector but it also ensures that there is adequate manpower for providing quality health services. Students belong to Schedule caste/ schedule tribe/other backward castes must secure minimum marks at 40th percentile while persons with disabilities (PWD) must secure marks at 45 percentile. The two major benefits are:
- Students will get a chance to take admission in medical colleges and helps in minimizing the wastage of seats
- This move will reduce the qualifying marks for PG and SS medical course
NEET cut-off:
As compared to the previous year, the major difference noted in the cut off scores is that previously the exam was conducted out of 1500 marks and this year it was out of 1200 marks. The NEET cut off is tabulated below:

Factors affecting NEET cut off:
NEET cut off marks varies each year. Not only the student’s marks, but there are various factors by taking care of which NEET cut off the list is prepared. These factors are given below:
- Total number of students appeared in the exam
- The difficulty level of the exam
- Student’s performance in the exam
- Previous year cut offs
NEET cut off tie-breaking criteria:
In the case if two or more students score same marks, the following tie-breaking factors are considered to determine the merit list:
- Students securing higher scores in Biology will be given preference
- After considering the above factor, if the tie remains, then the candidates with the higher score in chemistry will be placed higher in the merit list
- If there is still tie, students with a lesser number of incorrect attempts will be placed higher in the merit list
- If after considering the all three factors there is still a tie, the candidates senior in age will be placed higher
