Atlanta is a beautiful place to be in, it is nothing like the mythical place Atlantis, but it is still a place to be!  Here’s why everyone is moving to Atlanta:

1. Cost of Living

For a major city with all the bells and whistles, it is cheap to live in Atlanta. Housing prices average about $265,000. Compare this to San Francisco, where prices are averaging nearly one million dollars.

Finding a job is not a problem. Atlanta has the third-largest number of Fortune 500 companies with offices in the city. Global companies with headquarters in Atlanta include Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Delta, UPS, AT&T, and Chick-fil-A. Clearly, a variety of skilled positions are needed in the city.

2. Neighborhoods

Atlanta still has distinct neighborhoods that are very walkable for residents. Their areas have restaurants, shopping, and other necessities all within a short distance from home.

Of course, Atlanta also has major malls with the latest in fashion and electronics. Each neighborhood is distinctive, so any new residents should find an area that suits them.

3. Diversity

Atlanta is exceptionally diverse for a city in “The South.” It has a large black population along with large numbers of Hispanics, Asians, and folks of European backgrounds.

For those new residents who enjoy diversity, there are plenty of opportunities to interact with people of a variety of cultures and backgrounds.

4. Sports/Outdoors

Sports of all types are big in Atlanta. Home to the professional baseball Braves, the city also has the Falcons, the basketball Hawks and Dream, and a soccer team. Atlanta likes to call itself the running city, and it is expected to play a major role in the US Olympic running tryouts for 2020.

It hosted the summer 1996 Olympics with good success. Atlanta is surrounded by parks and hiking paths. It is also quite welcoming to bicyclists and scooters. The North Georgian Mountains are a short drive from the city with camping, boating, and fishing.

5. Modern Conveniences

Atlanta has its airport. If you plan to do a fair amount of travel, the airport is modern and convenient for all residents. There is no need to use a connecting flight to reach a major airport.

Atlanta has the Marta, which is Atlanta’s public transportation system. Marta makes it easy to travel around the city without having to worry about parking. Atlanta’s highway system is efficient and moves traffic around the city successfully most of the time.

6. Food

Every kind of food is found in Atlanta. This includes those foods and recipes common to the South.

Don’t miss the Waffle House or BuccaLupo. Many visitors are surprised to find macaroni and cheese listed as vegetables.

7. Festivals

Atlanta features a long spell of good weather during the spring, summer, and fall and fills this time with lots of festivals. They even have their own sci-fi and comic festival each year called Dragon Con.

Whether you like art, wine, jazz, dancing, rides, or midway games, each festival will have something for you. The National Black Arts Festival has a worldwide reputation.

8. Civil Rights History

Atlanta is the birthplace of Rev. Martin Luther King, and there are several museums. His church pulpit is still here and can be visited. The King Center has its library and other important possessions on display.

Other civil rights centers include Rosa Parks and the Jimmy Carter Center. Each year, Atlanta hosts a Civil Rights walk to remember those who were influential during the civil rights movement of the 60s and 70s.

As you can see, Atlanta has much to offer the new residents. It is becoming a very popular place for people to relocate and start a new life.
