It is indisputable that 2020 has been hard for many of us – so, with the UK now slowly emerging from the COVID crisis, there is no better time for Brits to start thinking about holidaying. However, instead of taking a vacation abroad this year, how about staying in good old Britain?
What is a Staycation?
A staycation is a term given to a holiday which you take at home or in your home country rather than abroad. Staycations have rapidly increased in popularity due to the COVID-19 pandemic – so, if you live in the UK, why should you consider a staycation?
1. It Helps the Environment:
Traveling in any kind of vehicle can increase your carbon footprint. This is because the carbon emissions produced by travel are extremely polluting the environment.
This is especially the case for international air travel, as you can imagine how much gas it must take to make the plane defy gravity. For a greener or more planet-conscious holiday, explore the sights of your home country.
2. You Can Avoid the Stress of Overseas Travel:
Traveling abroad can be very stressful – we have all had that last-minute dash through the airport, or the dreaded fear that we’ve forgotten our passport. It would be ideal to have the fun of the holiday without the extra anxiety, right?
Not only this, but overseas travel is also being closely monitored by governments across the globe in an effort to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. This means you may have to quarantine for two weeks upon arrival or return, depending on the country’s guidelines at the time.
3. Stay Safe:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, you may find that it is in fact safer for you to stay in your home country for your vacations. This will limit the amount of contact you need to have with other human beings, as you can drive to your destination and stay in your social bubble.
As we try to counter the threat of the coronavirus, it is important that we all try to stay as safe as we can and look after our communities.
4. Visit the Sights:
Staying in the UK can allow you to discover sights that you may never have seen before or visit places you have always wanted to go.
From the white cliffs of Dover to the sandy Cornwall beaches, and whether you are, say, glamping in the Lake District or spending time in hotels in Shepherds Bush, the UK has many historic and beautiful destinations waiting to be explored.
5. Help the Local Economy:
When you visit other countries, your money contributes towards their economy, supporting their local businesses. After the rough year that was 2020, it is now more vital than ever for Brits to rally together and help their local economy.
So, this year, why not make your vacation a staycation and fully embrace everything that the UK has to offer, giving back to the community and keeping all of your loved ones safe in the process?
