School Principal

Are you a passionate, motivated, and driven teacher? If so, you will no doubt have aspirations of one day becoming a school principal. This will see you reach the pinnacle of your career in education. It will bump up your pay packet considerably, and, most important of all, it will provide you with the platform you need to have a bigger educational impact on a wider range of students.

You won’t reach the level of school principle overnight, however, that much is for certain. If you make this your overarching career goal, you’re going to need to devote years of your life to your craft. It’ll all be worth it, though, when you’re handed the keys to your office!

As you embark on your journey up your chosen career ladder, be sure to put the advice laid out below into practice. If you do, you’ll be sure to reach your full potential far sooner.

Here are two things you should do if you want to become a school principal:

1. Never stop learning

If you’re serious about one day becoming a school principal, you simply must commit to continuous learning. Like the pupils that you teach, you need to be picking up new skills on a regular basis. The more you know and understand about your craft, the more likely you will be to impress those who have the power to help you progress in your career. Consistently improving your day-to-day performance will draw more eyes to the work that you produce, which, in turn, will help you to stand out from the crowd when promotions are available.

As is the case when working towards all education doctorate jobs, to truly stand out in this sense you need to go above and beyond simply learning more about your chosen subject and niche teaching field. If you want to prove that you have what it takes to be a principal, you need to showcase your ability to design and create educational curricula. To aid you in your bid to become proficient at designing your own teaching timetable, you should enroll in an online course

Headteacher is just one of the many careers for teachers with a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, which is why you should consider enrolling in this type of course, whether you aim to become a principal or not. With this type of qualification under your belt, you could work in educational administrative positions, or you could pick up a role in a government agency.

2. Develop relationships in your school

The way that you perform in the classroom will only get you so far. If you want to become the principal of the school that you currently work in, you need to develop relationships within it. The more people you have backing you and singing your praises, the more likely you will be to convince the school’s board of governors that you are the right person for the job. If you have to schmooze a few people to get to the top of your chosen career ladder, so be it!
