Gunfire Erupts At Choctaw-Del City Game, Leaving Four Injured; Police Looking For Suspects!

In a shocking incident that unfolded around 10:15 p.m. on Friday, shots were fired during the Choctaw-Del City game near Northeast 10th Street and Henney Road, sending shockwaves through the crowd. The chaotic turn of events resulted in four individuals sustaining gunshot wounds, leaving the community in a state of disbelief.

Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall confirmed that amidst the chaos, four people were shot, and among them, one victim was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The wound, located in their thigh, was deemed non-life-threatening, allowing for their prompt release. The unsettling revelation that one of the victims was a student has only intensified concerns surrounding the incident.

Details concerning the conditions of the other three victims remain scarce, leaving worried family members and community members anxiously awaiting updates on their well-being. Law enforcement authorities are maintaining a tight lid on information regarding the victims, opting to withhold further details for the time being.

Adding to the sense of unease is the fact that the perpetrator remains at large. Authorities have yet to apprehend a suspect, leading to heightened apprehension within the community as they grapple with the aftermath of the unexpected violence.

During the incident, an officer from the Del City Police discharged their weapon. However, Del City Police Chief Loyd Berger refrained from divulging additional information about the circumstances surrounding this particular discharge, leaving many questions unanswered.

Amidst the turmoil, superintendents David Reid and Rick Cobb, representing Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools and Mid-Del Schools respectively, issued a joint statement:

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by tonight’s incident. Both districts are working jointly with the police presence from Choctaw, Del City, and Oklahoma County in an ongoing investigation. The police will provide further details as they become available.”

Startling footage captured by Skordle.TV’s live coverage depicted the chaotic moments when shots were fired. Players on the field were seen fleeing, seeking safety while others took cover. Fortunately, the swift response ensured the safety of everyone on the field.

Mark Rodgers, reporting for The Sports Animal, recounted the distressing experience of hearing gunshots with less than five minutes left in the third quarter. The event led to the abrupt suspension of the game.

“The panic kind of came in waves after the initial shots. Just a scary situation,” states Rodgers. The source of the disturbance appeared to be the stadium’s northeast corner, where Del City players were seen running, followed by Choctaw High School players.

The incident cast a somber cloud over what was meant to be an exciting start to the season for both teams. The unexpected violence serves as a poignant reminder of the vulnerability of even the most anticipated events, leaving the community grappling with a renewed sense of vigilance and concern.
