Bamboo Fabric

As new ways of adopting a healthier and more environmentally conscious lifestyle keep emerging, it’s only natural to see more aspects coming together to help make the puzzle complete. This, of course, leaves space for some things to dwell in a gray area (food and fitness choices for instance), which is why there are so many debates on certain topics, and it is completely normal because everyone is looking for their own individual truth.

However, when it comes to finding a material all aspects of which are uniquely a win-win situation for everyone involved, nothing trumps bamboo. This is due to the fact that for those of us who like to go the extra mile when it comes to the choices we make regarding the products we use on a daily basis, this option ensures that everything is taken into account. This includes the well-being of the consumer, the sense of purpose the manufacturers of these products are able to derive from their work, and the well-being of the greatest manufacturer of them all – Mother Nature.

Towels, sheets, blankets, throws, and clothes – all of these products now have a variety made of bamboo fabric. But let’s see what are the precise reasons for one to give precedence to this fabric and actually begin to opt for products made of bamboo.

Unparalleled Softness Which Can Be Worn, But Not Easily Torn :

There is a lovely paradox surrounding bamboo fabric – it is both extremely resilient and incredibly soft. Yes, softer than cotton. In fact, it outperforms cotton in many different ways, not only when it comes to how silky, luxurious and comfortable it feels on the skin. We all love cotton for its moisture-wicking properties, but bamboo is even better at moisture absorption.

These properties make bamboo the go-to option when it comes to our dearest little ones because their gentle skin requires exactly that – something soft to touch that helps get rid of moisture very quickly. Bamboo also wins the battle of sheets when compared to silk. As fine-looking as it is, silk is an extremely delicate material, whereas bamboo sheets don’t require special attention and care.

The Skin Gets to Breathe, Bacteria and Allergies – Not So Much :

As nice as the bamboo fabric can be to one’s skin, it doesn’t mean it lacks a little bit of a rougher side. But, luckily for all of us, all these means is that bamboo has fighting properties that make it a natural solution for people with sensitive skin. Its fibers do not irritate even the gentlest of skin, all while making sure that bacteria cannot thrive, as it is hypoallergenic. Thermo-regulation is yet another benefit we all seek, especially when it comes to the choice of sheets. Well, with bamboo, it is possible to stay comfortable regardless of the weather as it can keep you cool in summer and warm in winter. And in regard to clothes, it has but one more advantage over many other materials – it is UV protective. Again, all of these properties make it the ideal choice for both grown-ups and kids.

But there’s more…

Bamboo Trees Grow up High in the Blink of an Eye :

This amazing plant is one of the fastest-growing ones in the world. As it is able to grow 120cm per day, it replenishes itself within a year, once harvested. In this aspect, it again takes the lead in comparison to cotton, which has to be replanted at every harvest. Apart from the speed of its growing process, it also requires minimal watering and almost no chemicals since it is naturally pest resistant. To put it into a perspective, cotton requires a lot of irrigation (up to 2700 liters for a single cotton shirt) and it cannot do without chemical spraying. And as if all this weren’t enough to render it a wonder-plant and the greenest option, bamboo is also able to absorb more carbon dioxide from the air than both timber and cotton, while releasing oxygen and improving the quality of air.

Seeing as there are more than a handful of reasons that portray bamboo as the superior choice, it’s no wonder that many environmentally conscious people are making the switch. Plus, it’s not like these people are being presented with materials that offer an equal amount of comfort and protection and then they decide to choose bamboo only cause it’s the greener option. It is the winner on every front and as a result, we’re seeing more and more products made from it, for instance, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, and some accessories. In the light of this fact, it becomes apparent that it’s also replacing harmful plastic whenever possible. Well, seems like nature has outdone herself with the creation of this plant. The question is – Can we do our part just by making the right choice? There’s no better time than now.
