How to Make Fishing Even More Fun

Fishing

If you love fishing, your passion is probably infectious. You want everyone around you to love it, too. This includes your spouse, kids, friends, neighbors, co-workers – everyone. Because the more they love fishing, the more opportunities there are for you to go.

However, if we’re being honest, some people aren’t as fully committed to fishing as others. For example, your wife might prefer to sit at home and play board games, while your kids would much rather go tubing on the lake. And then there are your friends who prefer watching football on the weekends or going golfing after work. How can you convince them to join you more often?

The simple answer is to make fishing more fun for everyone. There are a few specific ways to do this, including:

1. Go Somewhere New

1. Go Somewhere New

We can all use a nice change of pace from time to time. If you always fish in the same spot on the same body of water, try shifting gears. Take a weekend trip to another lake. Or take your boat another mile down the coastline. There’s something powerful about changing your environment that makes fishing even more enjoyable.

 2. Fish for Different Fish

For many of us, we tend to focus on a particular type of fish. For example, you might spend 100 percent of your time fishing for big bass. Or if you’re a fly fisherman, it may be trout. And while there’s nothing wrong with specializing in a certain type of fish – it typically makes you more skilled – you should occasionally try fishing for different species.

When you fish for different types of fish, it requires you to use new equipment, bait, lures, and techniques. This presents an entirely new set of challenges that must be dealt with. Confront these challenges head-on and have some fun!

 3. Make It More Comfortable

If you ask people why they don’t like fishing, it often comes down to the fact that it can be messy and unpleasant. Whether it’s the smell of the fish, hooking worms, the rocking of the boat, or the splashing of waves against the hull – some people can’t get past the discomfort.

One way to make fishing more fun is by making it more comfortable. If you have a boat, this could be as simple as buying new boat seats with better support or cushions. Or, if you’re fishing in harsh conditions, you may need to get more appropriate gear.

If you’re fishing during the winter, wearing multiple layers is a must. You might even want to keep hand warmers, gloves, and extra hats and jackets on the boat so that nobody is cold.

 4. Hire a Fishing Guide

While a true angler can still have fun fishing even without catching anything, most people see a direct correlation between fun and the number of fish caught. And if you want to increase your chances of catching fish, you may occasionally hire a fishing guide. This is an especially good idea when fishing in a new place for the first time.

Fishing with a guide is more expensive, but you can think of it as paying for education. Not only are you more likely to catch fish, but you learn all of the good honey holes and have an opportunity to ask questions and learn new techniques.

 5. Try Night Fishing

Try Night Fishing

Want to add a new twist to fishing and create some excitement? Try night fishing. It’s a totally different experience that requires you to use new senses, equipment, and methods. And if you’re trying to invigorate someone who otherwise is burned out on traditional fishing, this is a great way to get them back in the game.

Now, we’re not saying night fishing is easy or that you’re going to suddenly start catching fish on every cast. In many respects, it’s more difficult. But there’s a novelty factor and fresh sense of energy that comes from fishing beneath the stars. That alone is enough to make the experience more fun.

Make Fishing Fun Again
